New Year, New Format

By: Bill

Hey there, mountain adventurers, gear junkies, and slope-loving families! We’ve been working behind the scenes here at Black, Blues and Brews to give our site a major refresh, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally share it with you. This update is all about helping you get the most out of your mountain experiences—whether you’re chasing powder on black diamonds, cruising down mellow blues, or just hanging out in the lodge, sipping on your favorite brew.

The Living Mountain Listings

The star of our new format is the Living Review for each mountain we visit. Rather than writing up a single review and calling it done, we’ll be updating our reviews every time we return to a resort. Conditions change, new lifts get installed, menus get overhauled, and we want you to know all about it. You’ll be able to track how each location evolves over time, see which resorts are consistently improving, and compare them to mountains we’ve tackled in the past.

How it works:

  1. Visit – We head out and experience the mountain firsthand (most likely fueled by tea, high energy, and childlike glee).
  2. Update – Our review for that mountain gets refreshed with new details. Everything from terrain enhancements to the newest microbrews in the lodge bar.
  3. Consolidate – Past trip reports and photos will remain accessible, so you can see how the resort changes year after year.

Trip-Specific Posts

Each of our trips gets its own dedicated blog post and podcast episode (because we love to talk). These posts will be linked right there on the mountain’s main review page. That means you can keep tabs on our evolving relationship with the resort—from the first time we strapped in to the latest black diamond conquest. If you’re just curious about the current state of a mountain, check out the most recent write-up. If you want the full backstory, start at the beginning and follow along through each twist, turn, and fresh snowfall.

More Than Just Mountains

While skiing and snowboarding are our passions, there’s so much more to cover. We’re also excited to bring you:

  • Insights on Epic/Ikon passes: Which one makes the most sense for your region, travel plans, and budget? We’ll tell you what we think.
  • Advice for beginners: It can be intimidating to hit the slopes for the first time. From picking the right lessons to finding welcoming terrain, we’ve got you covered.
  • Gear tips and recommendations: Our crew has made a few mistakes when choosing our own gear, by sharing our insight maybe we can save you from making the same mistakes.
  • Beyond: There are countless topics we want to dive into—family-friendly lodging, off-mountain activities, managing bigger trips, finding local craft breweries, you name it.
